Sand Dollars

George W. Hart

These are my imagined undersea creatures, mathematically designed based on hyperbolic tessellations.

These are not actual, naturally occurring sand dollars.

If someday I am reincarnated as a sand dollar in a parallel universe, these are my fantasy echinerdermata mates.

These are made of nylon, by selective laser sintering.

Each is circular, about 6 inches in diameter and a quarter inch thick.

This and the next are made of ABS by fused deposition modeling. The above is 8 inches across.

This is four inches across. There is a paper describing the mathematical ideas here.
