Snarl

George W. Hart

This two inch sculpture was selected to be part of Stony Brook University's 50th Anniversary time capsule.
It will be buried sometime in 2008 and will remain sealed underground for fifty years, until 2058.

It started out white, as seen above, made of nylon by selective laser sintering,
before I colored it orange and red to help bring out its structure.

The above computer-generated visualization makes clear that it is made of planar components.

Closeup, it is pretty cool!   I hope the people who dig it up in fifty years like it.
High-resolution images are available with a white background or with a black background.

I have also made a version of this design in wood.
