Thirty pieces of aluminum are
assembled
to
make this 12-inch diameter sculpture.
It is, in part, an experiment with using bent metal tabs for the
connectors.
I cut the parts with a
computer-controlled
plasma cutter. Above is the template.
There are five-fold "portholes"
into
the interior, so it really is very suggestive of a bathysphere.
My assembly guide was a
computer-generated visualization, like the above.
I later used this sculpture for the poster of
a one-man
sculpture exhibition at the Simons Center for Geometry and
Physics.
